ABSTRACT

 

The application of self psychology's theory of development and treatment is presented in relation to the treatment of children and adolescents. An intersubjective model of pathogenesis in child and adolescent development is described. Assessment and treatment from an individual and systemic perspective as informed by self psychological theory is discussed. The limitations of short-term treatment models in general and in the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents and their parents in particular is presented from within a self psychological developmental model.
